Khalti gets selected for the Spring Accelerator program to change the lives of adolescent girls in Nepal through digital payment  technologies

We are proud to announce that Khalti Digital Wallet has been selected for the SPRING Accelerator program, to economically empower Smart Chhoris and provide them with the unique ability to transform lives and help end the cycle of intergenerational poverty.

As part of the program, Khalti will help build leadership roles in 10,000 teenage girls of Nepal through digital payments.

Over the course of the next 9 months, Khalti will conduct a special ‘Smart Chhori’ project to empower 10,000 adolescent girls across various corners of the nation and enable them to use financial technology and prepare them to be self-dependent.

Along with Khalti, a total of 20 startups from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan committing to innovation and girl impact have been selected for the prestigious accelerator program.

What is so special about the ‘Smart Chhori’ project?

In the case of Nepal, society does not encourage girls to come ahead. They are too hesitant now. After coming to this project, the girls will learn various sets of life skills that will make them feel a greater sense of personal growth, enable them to speak in front of any mass of the public, have public interaction, talk to any person with confidence, ultimately providing them with more opportunities.

The ‘Smart Chhori’ project will reach every corner of the nation, ranging from Mountain to Terai, from east to west, and from urban to rural villages, to make them smarter and improve their lives through digital payment technology.

Through the Smart Chhori program, we seek to raise awareness and financial literacy in the girls. This program will not only help make the girls smarter but also financially independent via income-generating activities. The girls will start earning and getting economically empowered after learning the necessary skills.

At the end of this project, the selected girls will evolve as empowered and smart chhoris, cause a ripple effect in the society, ultimately leading up to building a smart nation.

No lagging behind, anymore!

What is Spring Accelerator Program?

SPRING Accelerator Program is a program funded by the Department for International Development UK (DFID), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Nike Foundation, and Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Australia (DFAT).

SPRING’s CEO Robert Haynie says,

Spring Accelerator program will develop knowledge and approach of these startups in meeting the needs of adolescent girls. These bright entrepreneurs will be brought together to harness the power of human-centered design and to learn from each other’s experiences.

The Accelerator was created in response to research showing that girls, when economically empowered, have a unique ability to transform lives and help end the cycle of inter-generational poverty. An estimated 250 million adolescent girls live in poverty worldwide, unable to build assets or safely raise the income needed for a more prosperous life.

Designed to transform the lives of adolescent girls by creating sustainable markets for life-enhancing products and services, SPRING Accelerator Program is a unique program giving businesses and social enterprises in East Africa and South Asia nine months of world-class technical expertise.

Khalti Digital Wallet is proud to be part of Spring Accelerator and utilize its products and services to change the lives of adolescent girls.
