Khalti is a mobile money account. It is a digital wallet in Nepal from where customers can pay, send and receive money from their mobile phone and internet. eSewa was the leading and only active mobile wallet before Khalti started providing the similar facility. Nepali people now have two options for online payment, receiving or sending money from a mobile app. Khalti is in the initial stage and is adding the total number of customers and partner banks. Today, I have come up with some basic information about Khalti, an emerging digital wallet in Nepal.
Khalti Digital Wallet App Availability
Registration on Khalti is easy. We can register from a laptop or mobile browser too. It is easy to sign up after downloading the app on our smartphone. One needs to enter name, email address, mobile number and set a new password in order to create a Khalti account.
The system sends a code to our mobile number which must be entered correctly to complete the registration process. After registration, we can update our KYC details by uploading our photo and government issued ID card.
Khalti users can cash-in to their wallet from agents and partner banks and start making payments instantly. One can pay for utilities, recharge their mobile, pay internet bills, EMI, School feels, credit card bills, buy airlines ticket and so on from their mobile. Likewise, merchants, service providers and retail outlets can receive payments for goods and services in their wallet instantly.
Popular services include mobile Top-Up (NTC, Ncell and Smart Cell), Landline payment, Dish Home payment, SimTV, ADSL, Subisu, Worldlink, NEA, Midas, Kaspersky, Khanepani, Vianet, etc. Booking flight, hotel and movie ticket is also possible in a hassle-free environment using this app
There is a provision of cashback of two percent while using to recharge mobile or making payment of landline and ADSL service of Nepal Telecom. It provides one percent cashback for payment of Worldlink and Vianet internet service too. Its Facebook page declares 25 percent cashback for booking tickets of BSR Movies, FCube Cinemas, Q’s Cinemas and Midtown Galleria.
Khalti has six banks from where the amount can be loaded. Everest, NIC Asia, NIBL, NMB, Mega and Machhapuchhre banks can be used to load the money from bank account to Khalti account and the process of partnering is increasing. One can also use VISA Card, MasterCard, Discover Network and American Express card to load the Khalti account.
Refer and earn
Khalti is in developing and marketing stage. Only few people have heard about it. In order to attract more users, Khalti has started ‘Refer-and-Earn’ scheme. Existing users can share their personal referral link to their friends to create new account on Khalti.
When one opens an account using the referral code, the new account holder will get Rs. 10 balance instantly and the person referring the same also will get Rs. 10 in their account. When the new user verifies the KYC form, the person referred will have Rs. 20 in their account. The new users can also share their own referral links and earn up to Rs. 5,000.
Withdraw and transfer
Unlike eSewa, withdrawing amount from Khalti account back to any bank account is not available. It is expected to be introduced soon. However, one can transfer balance from one Khalti account to another.
